Intellectual, Memory & Learning Ability

Arise Health & Wellness provides cognitive (or IQ) testing for children and adults. These assessments are designed to help identify exceptional needs such as intellectual disabilities and/or intellectual giftedness. Individuals who fall into these classifications require individualised approaches to learning and adaptive living. Cognitive testing provides carers, teachers, support and government agencies, as well as individuals themselves, with better understanding of individuals skills relating to problem-solving, reasoning, working memory and processing speed.

Our clinicians can also provide more detailed and targeted assessment of academic skills (literacy and numeracy skills, listening comprehension, oral expression, etc.) so as to identify Specific Learning Disorders (e.g. dyslexia).  We also assess memory functions, concentration/attention and executive functions (planning, organisation, self-regulation, etc.).

The testing is usually conducted over 2-5, one-hour sessions and includes an assessment of intellectual functioning, adaptive functioning, learning and associated emotional and behavioural well-being. These assessments include a comprehensive and personalised report.

ADHD / Autism

Our clinicians provide comprehensive assessment of neurodivergence, including Autism and ADHD. Our Autism assessments involve the administration of the gold-standard assessment tool, the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule - Second Edition (ADOS-2), as well as a detailed interview with caregivers of the individual’s developmental history. Liaison with schools and daycare/preschools is also involved in the assessment process.

Our ADHD assessments involve interview with the individual and their close family members (where appropriate), the administration of formal, standardised tools and where appropriate psychometric testing.

The assessment is conducted over 4-5, one-hour sessions. Occasionally, it is also recommended that a cognitive and learning assessment is also administered which would involve an additional 2-3 hours of assessment.

Mental Health

We conduct comprehensive clinical interviews and, where appropriate neuropsychological assessments, to identify a range of childhood, adolescent and adult difficulties including:

  • Mood Disorders,

  • Anxiety Disorders,

  • Attachment Disorders,

  • Adjustment Disorders, and

  • Conduct Disorders.

These assessments commonly involve collecting information - through clinical interview and standardised surveys - from the patient them self, relatives/parents, teachers and other treating health professionals.

These assessments can vary in time and are sometimes conducted over a number of sessions that incorporate treatment (at the treatment rate). Diagnostic reports can be provided for the purposes of Centrelink, university or school to allow for special provisions and supports at an additional fee.
